Hawk Rock Guidelines

Hawk Rock Guidelines

The Hawk Rock runs on the honor system, with the hope that everyone will respect these guidelines.

Reservations are processed on a first-come, first served basis. Please keep in mind that the earlier you make your reservation, the more likely you are to secure your desired date(s). All available reservation dates are listed, and date slots will not be modified. Please select your date carefully and mark your calendar. The cost per rental day is $20. Payment must be made within 24 hours of your reservation, or your date will be released.

There are approximately 180 school days per year, and Hickory Creek Elementary School has over 700 students registered. Please be understanding if the date you requested is unavailable.

Any individual, team, event or business may be the subject of the Hawk Rock for a limit of three days (in succession or not in succession) per calendar month. Anyone not abiding by this rule will have their reservation cancelled and their payment refunded (less the PTO's processing fees).

What is painted on the Hawk Rock MUST be in good taste and MAY NOT contain any foul language, discriminatory, religious, and/or political statements or symbols. Profanity and obscenities are not permitted. All messages should be affirming. All wording and symbols must be positive.

Only the face of the rock may be painted. Painting on sidewalks, poles, posts or buildings is prohibited. Do not paint the grass around the rock. Any damage or destruction to the surrounding areas or buildings will deem the family, group, or organization financially responsible for cleaning and repair costs. We recommend using drop cloths to protect the grass and sidewalk while you are painting.

You may start painting at 4:00 p.m. and you must be finished by 8:00 p.m. the day before your reserved date(s). For example, if you reserve a rock for a Tuesday, you may start painting at 4:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon. Rock reservations for Monday should be painted the previous Friday between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

There will be no refunds, even due to inclement weather. If you are unable to paint the rock on schedule according to your reservation (due to a conflict in your schedule, forgetfulness, etc.), please try to trade with another family at the school. The PTO will not give refunds on rock reservations.

Families, groups, or organizations must furnish their own labor, paint, and supplies to paint the rock. NO SPRAY PAINT IS ALLOWED ON CAMPUS PER ADMINISTRATION. Use only "standard" latex or water-based paint on the rock. No puffy paint, no glue, no glitter, no chemicals, no oil-based paint, etc.  You will be painting over the previous day's message when it is your turn, so make sure your paint will provide good coverage.

Suggested supplies include:

  • Latex paint and a "rough" roller to cover the previous day's message
  • Latex or acrylic paint for lettering and artwork
  • Small brushes or sponges for lettering and artwork
  • Chalk for sketching out your message before painting
  • Drop cloth to protect grass and sidewalks
  • Large trash bag for all used painting supplies

You will not have access to water on-site to rinse your brushes or rollers. Used paint cans are not to be placed in campus trash bins or dumpsters. Please dispose of paint cans properly off campus.

The family, group, or organization painting the rock assumes liability for any individual or member of the family, group, or organization who may be injured or who incurs clothing or other personal property damage.

By reserving the Hawk Rock and providing payment, you agree to adhere by these terms.
